DD-459 Destroyer Military Building Blocks

Designed and licensed by ny152 halle, this model restores the DD-459 in World War II and now housed at the New Jersey Museum.

DD-459 is the second U.S. Navy vessel named after Bartlett Laffey. On March 5, 1864, Sailor Laffey was awarded the Medal of Honor for his stand against Confederate forces.

The ship, an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer, was laid down and launched during World War II, in 1943, and commissioned in February 1944. Dubbed the "Ship That Would Not Die," she earned this nickname for her valor during the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of Okinawa, where she withstood relentless attacks from conventional bombers and the infamous kamikaze raids. Today, DD-459 stands as a National Historic Landmark and museum ship at Patriot's Point in Charleston, South Carolina.
