Take on rough terrain with the MOC-0001 RC 4WD Trial Off-Road Vehicle Building Blocks. Designed and authorized by Nico71, this 990-piece model combines remote-control driving with a full mechanical drivetrain, portal axles, articulated suspension, and a simulated V6 engine.

Measuring approximately 38 × 20 × 24 cm, the finished model has the proportions and mechanical layout of a dedicated trial off-roader. More than just a static display piece, it was developed to demonstrate traction, suspension travel, steering geometry, and drivetrain movement in a functional RC build.

4-Wheel-Drive Off-Road System

The drivetrain powers all four wheels through a differential-based layout, helping the vehicle maintain traction across uneven surfaces and obstacles.

Portal Axles for Greater Ground Clearance

Each wheel uses a portal-style hub with reduction gearing, increasing ground clearance while adding another layer of mechanical detail to the drivetrain.

Ackermann Steering

A servo-driven Ackermann steering system allows the inner and outer front wheels to follow different turning radii, creating more realistic steering geometry.

5-Link Live-Axle Suspension

The front and rear axles use a five-link suspension configuration designed to provide articulation over uneven terrain while keeping the axles securely located beneath the chassis.

Working V6 Engine

A brick-built V6 engine is mechanically connected to the drivetrain, allowing the pistons to move as the vehicle drives.

Remote-Control Operation

The model is designed for powered driving with an electric motor and servo steering system, transforming the finished build into a functional RC off-road vehicle.

Openable Bonnet & Trunk

Both the bonnet and rear trunk can be opened, providing access to additional mechanical details and enhancing the model’s interactive character.

Detailed Interior

The cabin includes a carefully designed interior that complements the functional chassis and off-road exterior.

From the Designer

Nico71’s MOC-0001 has a special place in MOC history: it was the first MOC added to Rebrickable. The model originates from an earlier era of custom building, before many of today’s specialized drivetrain and suspension elements existed.

Despite its age, the design already incorporated advanced ideas such as four-wheel drive, portal gearing, Ackermann steering, a simulated V6 engine, and five-link live-axle suspension. The instructions were later updated to refine part positioning and improve the building experience.

A Functional Mechanical Off-Road Build

With 990 pieces, RC driving, working mechanical systems, and a rugged trial-inspired chassis, this model offers a hands-on building experience for off-road enthusiasts, RC model fans, and builders interested in drivetrain and suspension engineering.
