Long Island City is the eastern terminus of the Queensboro Bridge, the only free car route connecting Queens and Manhattan. Northeast of the bridge is the Queensboro Bridge Residences, a development of the New York City Housing Authority and the largest public housing estate in the Western Hemisphere. The north side belongs to Queens 1 and the south side belongs to Queens 2. Politically, Long Island City is represented by the 26th District of the New York City Council.
