Background:
This aircraft, known as the Comet, was the world's first commercial airliner, developed and produced in the United Kingdom. The prototype of the Comet 1 made its first flight in 1949 and entered service in 1952. It featured a sleek, streamlined design with four engines built into the wing, along with a pressurized cabin and large windows, making it a highly promising aircraft for its time.
However, the early versions suffered catastrophic failures caused by metal fatigue, leading to several widely publicized accidents. After extensive redesign and improvement, the updated Comet 4 series was introduced in 1958 and continued in service until 1981. The final Comet 4 flew in 1997 as a research platform. One of its most significant developments was its transformation into a patrol aircraft variant used for many years, remaining in service until 2011.
