Recreate a classic piece of New York City emergency-response history with the MOC-277134 1996 HME 1871 Saulsbury FDNY Rescue 5 Heavy Rescue Truck Building Blocks. Designed and authorized by Silver Ridge, this 1,322-piece model is based on FDNY Rescue 5’s 1996 HME 1871-Saulsbury heavy rescue apparatus, a specialized vehicle built to carry extensive rescue equipment for complex emergency operations.

Finished in the distinctive red-and-white FDNY color scheme, the model captures the truck’s boxy cab, substantial rescue body, and equipment-focused layout. Rather than carrying a conventional firefighting water tank, the vehicle dedicates much of its body space to rescue tools, breathing equipment, and specialized storage.

A Classic Heavy Rescue Apparatus

The model recreates the purposeful proportions of a 1990s North American heavy rescue truck, combining a forward-control cab with a large equipment body designed around technical rescue operations.

Five Roll-Up Equipment Compartments

The rear rescue body includes five roll-up storage compartments, providing extensive space for representing the specialized equipment carried aboard a heavy rescue unit.

Dedicated SCBA Storage

A designated storage section represents the area used for SCBA breathing-air cylinders, adding another authentic operational detail to the apparatus.

Detailed Rescue Storage Areas

Additional compartments include specialized storage features inspired by the real truck, including an area secured with distinctive maroon webbing.

Built as a Mobile Rescue Toolbox

Unlike a conventional engine or pumper, Rescue 5 was designed primarily around equipment capacity and specialized rescue capability, giving the model a very different layout from more familiar fire apparatus.

A Meaningful FDNY Recreation

This model is based on the Rescue 5 apparatus assigned to Staten Island that responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Its history gives the build significance beyond its mechanical and visual details, and the project was developed in collaboration with the R5 Rolling Memorial / Carl Vincent Bini Memorial Fund.

From the Designer

Silver Ridge created MOC-277134 as his first Rescue and Heavy Rescue model, working with the R5 Rolling Memorial team to recreate the historic Rescue 5 apparatus as accurately and respectfully as possible.

The original project was also created as a fundraising and memorial build, with the designer dedicating proceeds from qualifying sales during the stated fundraising period to the Carl Vincent Bini Memorial Fund in honor of the Rescue 5 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11.
