Recreate the character of a classic European heavy diesel locomotive with the MOC-127413 BR 234 304-4 1:43 Scale Heavy Diesel Locomotive Building Blocks. Designed and authorized by langemat, this 1,694-piece model is inspired by the BR 234 304-4, a member of the well-known “Ludmilla” diesel locomotive family that became an important part of East German and later German railway operations.

Built at approximately 1:43 scale, the model captures the locomotive’s long, powerful proportions and distinctive industrial appearance. A dark turquoise color scheme was selected to closely represent the prototype’s historic mint-green livery while allowing a wider range of building elements to be used throughout the structure.

Inspired by the BR 234 “Ludmilla”

The BR 234 belongs to the locomotive family derived from the DR Class 130 series. More than 700 locomotives of the broader family were produced between 1970 and 1982, becoming closely associated with heavy railway operations in the former GDR and later Deutsche Bahn.

A Distinctive Mint-Green Locomotive

BR 234 304-4 was known for its unusual mint-green appearance and remained in local transport service until 2002. For this model, dark turquoise elements were chosen to achieve a similar visual character while maintaining practical parts availability.

Detailed 1:43 Scale Proportions

The model measures approximately 59.1 studs long, 8.9 studs wide, and 13.9 studs high, giving it proportions close to minifigure scale.

Using the standard 8 mm stud spacing, the finished dimensions are approximately:

47.3 × 7.1 × 11.1 cm

Its substantial size and approximately 1.2 kg finished weight give the locomotive a strong presence on both railway layouts and display shelves.

Compatible with Standard Train Tracks

The bogie arrangement is designed for standard building-block railway tracks. The locomotive can negotiate curves down to R40, although larger-radius curves are recommended because of the model’s length and resulting overhang.

Ready for a Motorization Concept

The locomotive itself requires either a dedicated motorization setup or a separate ghost wagon to operate under power. This gives advanced railway builders flexibility to choose the drive system that best suits their layout.

From the Designer

langemat based this model on an earlier BR 132 project but redesigned the proportions to bring the locomotive much closer to a realistic 1:43 scale.

The designer deliberately chose dark turquoise to approximate the distinctive mint-green livery of BR 234 304-4 and recommends larger-radius curves for the best running appearance, even though the locomotive is capable of passing R40 track.

A Powerful Railway Display Model

With 1,694 pieces, realistic proportions, a distinctive historic color scheme, and compatibility with standard railway layouts, this locomotive makes an impressive centerpiece for diesel locomotive enthusiasts, European railway collectors, and builders creating large-scale train displays.
