Explore the principles of pneumatic power with the MOC-26403 + MOC-164704 Pneumatic Steam Engine & Hand Pump Station Building Blocks. Designed and authorized by Nico71, this 1,367-piece combination set brings together a fully pneumatic steam-machine model and a dedicated four-pump air station, creating a complete mechanical system powered entirely by compressed air.

The main machine measures approximately 38 × 23 × 20 cm and uses two pneumatic cylinders positioned at a 90° offset to drive the mechanism. Valve timing, moving pistons, a rotating flywheel, speed indication, and adjustable airflow make the operating process clearly visible, while the included hand-pump station provides the compressed air needed to bring the machine to life.

Twin-Cylinder Pneumatic Engine

Two pneumatic cylinders arranged at a 90° angle work together to create continuous reciprocating motion, driving the machine without the need for an electric drive motor.

Mechanical Valve Gear System

A coordinated valve mechanism controls the airflow between the cylinders, recreating the timing principle of a steam engine while allowing builders to observe the relationship between valves, pistons, and rotational motion.

Visible Flywheel & Piston Motion

As compressed air enters the system, the pistons move back and forth while the large flywheel rotates, turning pneumatic pressure into an engaging kinetic display.

Speed Indicator & Air Control Valve

The machine incorporates a speed indicator together with an adjustable air-control valve, adding further functionality while demonstrating how airflow affects the operating speed of the mechanism.

Four-Pump Hand Air Station

The included MOC-164704 pump station uses four manual pneumatic pumps arranged in an ergonomic configuration, allowing compressed air to be generated by hand for the main machine.

Air Tank for Smoother Operation

An integrated air tank stores compressed air and helps provide a steadier flow to the pneumatic engine, supporting smoother and more consistent running.

No Battery or Drive Motor Required

This combination is built around pneumatic power. The included hand-pump station supplies the air pressure mechanically, allowing the engine to operate without relying on an electric drive motor or battery-powered drivetrain.

From the Designer

Nico71 created MOC-26403 Steam Machine to demonstrate the mechanics of a pneumatic engine using two 90° offset cylinders, a valve-gear system, airflow control, and a visible speed indicator.

The accompanying MOC-164704 Hand Pump was later developed as a modernized four-pump air source with an air tank, providing a compact way to supply the airflow and pressure required by pneumatic machines. Together, the two models form a complete hands-on demonstration of compressed-air power and mechanical motion.

A Functional Mechanical Display

With 1,367 pieces, moving pneumatic cylinders, visible valve timing, a rotating flywheel, and a dedicated manual air station, this set offers a rewarding building experience for engineering enthusiasts, mechanical-model collectors, and builders interested in pneumatic systems and kinetic machines.

Important Note

Smooth operation depends on maintaining sufficient and consistent airflow. The designer recommends approximately 2–3 bar of air pressure for the Steam Machine.
